Guidelines for Baltimore Communal Giving

  1. Education and Workforce Development - We believe that if all people can receive a quality education they can more fully participate in the civic life of and contribute to the economic growth of a community.  This effort involves more than simply support for public education - it includes work force development programs, adult literacy training, and training programs which can increase a person's earning power and provide new and better jobs.
  2. Housing, Health Care and Basic Needs - The neediest people in Baltimore frequently have little or no voice and few opportunities for housing, healthcare, or other basic necessities.  The Foundation seeks to support this population and to improve their access to organizations which deliver fundamental services to Baltimore's most disadvantaged residents.
  3. Art and Culture - Although the Founders were committed to the arts and cultural activities of Baltimore, funding in these areas will be limited, and unsolicited proposals are not encouraged.

In making grants, the Foundation will look to enhancing the capacity of institutions with a proven record of contributions to the Baltimore community or newer institutions with a strong likelihood of success.
